Summer Team Away Day

We got the team together in mid July for a well earned away day. We talked about work, AI and sustainability and then had some fun.

Stay in the loop with our latest updates

With offices in Bristol, Truro and London and a bunch of remote workers, we have to make sure we plan in person days at least twice per year. These days are usually recognisable as a business update followed by some fun, food and downtime.

This July, we got together in Cornwall, basing ourselves in a beautiful property in Mawgan Porth for a day. The plan was simple, some work and company updates in the morning, a lunch to catch up with team members in person and then some afternoon activities and an evening meal.

Highlights of the morning session were:

  • – Celebrating a fabulous year so far for the business
  • – A presentation from Carl Robinson, founder of Plant One Cornwall
  • – AI workshop, looking at how we can increase our use of AI as a business and to support our clients

After a morning of conversation and updates we settled down for a fuelling lunch, supplied by a wonderful local Cornish company

Then came the really fun bit, as we split in two for the afternoon, either heading to St Eval to enjoy go karting, or into Newquay for an invigorating coasteering session.

Those who ventured to St Eval go karting had an afternoon on the track, doing some legitimate and highly encouraged speeding. The competition was fierce and the team who karted had a proper old race; the top prize went to Logan – who was simply too fast for anyone else to catch.

Humans were thrown from cliffs and into the sea in Newquay, as the other half of the team were guided around the coast by the epic team at King Surf. Everyone joined in the activities, which included cliff jumping, swimming, rock scrambling and a particularly adrenaline fuelled spell in a small gulley that filled and emptied at pace with the waves – dubbed ‘The Washing Machine’.

Appetite regained, both factions of team Hiyield returned to Mawgan Porth for an evening meal, drinks and hot tubbing. It was an incredible day, one that will be remembered for quite some time, but also means we are now that little bit too excited to plan another one.

Keep an eye on our careers page if this sounds like the kind of team you’d like to be a part of.
