Happy B Corp Month!

It’s been two years since we certified — though in many ways, it feels like we’ve been on this journey much longer. Before we reached certification in 2023, we spent years thinking about it, planning for it, and doing the work to make sure we were building a business that genuinely lived its values. The certification didn’t change who we are. It gave us a framework to keep proving it.

And B Corp Month is an excellent moment for us to reflect.

The movement we’re part of

B Lab has just celebrated ten years, with more than 10,000 B Corps worldwide – and the impact is real.

  • B Corps achieved around 20% turnover growth between 2024 and 2025 (almost seven times higher than the UK SME average)
  • They’re nearly twice as likely to run on 100% renewable energy
  • More than half are led by gender-balanced teams, compared to just 25% of UK SMEs overall

We find that genuinely exciting. Not because it makes us look good, but because it means this thing is working.

What B Corp looks like at Hiyield

Being a B Corp here isn’t a set of initiatives that run alongside the business – it’s woven into the everyday. Sometimes that means big structural decisions, like moving all our managed hosting to a provider powered by 100% renewable energy, or becoming an Employee-Owned Trust to make our values tangible for the people building this company.

Sometimes it’s smaller. What do we buy the team for Christmas? How do we travel to a client meeting? Are we actually choosing the most responsible option, or just the easiest one?

Our B Team keeps us honest on all of it – asking the questions that are easy to skip over when things get busy, and making sure our values don’t end up as nice words in a Google Doc somewhere.

B Local Cornwall

One of the real joys of this journey has been becoming part of B Local Cornwall – a community of businesses across Cornwall and the UK who are doing the same work, sharing what they’ve learned, and genuinely lifting each other up. There’s something quietly brilliant about being in a room with people who aren’t performing a purpose, just getting on with it.

We’re proud that our COO, Laura, has become a B Local Cornwall co-chair — it’s exactly the kind of connection we hoped certification would open up.

Where we’re headed

Recertification isn’t until November 2027 — the new standards pushed the timeline out — but we’re already working towards it, and we’re glad of that. Starting early means we can make genuinely meaningful improvements rather than scramble to tick boxes at the end.

There’s more we want to do. More transparency around our environmental impact. Deeper roots in the Cornish community. Harder conversations about where technology should and shouldn’t go.

We don’t have all the answers. But we’ve got the right questions, a team who genuinely cares, and a pretty spectacular bit of coastline to remind us why it matters.
