— Our Work
This is Cool
This is Cool is on a mission to send a message to the world about sustainable cooling and they needed an effective user-centred website do it.
Campaigning to show what can be done to make sustainable cooling a reality

The Problem
‘We need a website that easily communicates our message!’
This is Cool is on a mission to tell the world about sustainable solutions that are easy to carry out worldwide. They have loads of solutions that positively improve lives and save our planet.
They wanted a website for their campaign, that effectively tells the world who they are, what they’re doing and encourage users to take action, and download their toolkit.
Our user-centered way of working was exactly what they were looking for.
This is Cool
What Happened
Clarifying the message and making it simple
We knew the objectives of the website, clearly set out by the This is Cool team, this meant we were all aligned on the project and knew what success looked like.
The use of illustrations for clear communication
We quickly realised that a user could become lost in what This is Cool is setting out to do. Therefore, text-heavy designs will not cut it, but the use of illustrations and text would send a clearer message.
Make it fun and engaging
Following on from the above, messaging is imperative in this project. But, we also want to combine a clear message with an experience that engages and beats the boring.
Cool design with interactivity for better engagement
Our experienced UX / UI designer hustled together a wireframe & prototype containing a simple, three-page design. Most of the time, less is more in a website in order to not confuse the user.
The design used a cool blue tone throughout and had bespoke illustrations that work perfectly with ‘cooling’ messaging.
Finally the best feature of all, a slider function that showed a before and after of an image (see image on the right). This interaction increased the lasting impact of their message.
A team of two developers
To develop this website quickly we had two developers, one working front-end on the visual, the other back-end on the CMS. We logged the project onto our project management tool productive for everyone in the team to see the progress of the project. Then, the developers delegated parts of the design to each other, speeding up the build.
We used Prismic CMS as it was perfect for a microsite like this and provided an easy way for the This is Cool Team to add images and copy. Soon enough This is Cool’s new website was built and ready for a review with one-to-one training on how to use Prismic CMS.
Key technical elements:
- Languages: HTML5, CSS3, Javascript
- Client-side: Vue.js, Bootstrap CSS
- Server-side: Prismic (CMS, API, Database is handled by This is Cool)
The Result
Keeping designs simple can be the best thing for a users experience
For this project, communication in the clearest way possible was essential, as the messaging for This is Cool could have easily become jumbled and confusing.
The solution was to keep their website simple, stripping out any unneeded content and streamlining user journeys, telling a quick and informative story. This is Cool’s new website does this amazingly!
This is Cool now has a website that is the core of their campaign
The website is the center of their campaign, where marketing activities direct traffic to their website for actions to be taken. This is Cool have achieved a website that spreads their message in an exciting and engaging way.
A note from developer Justin about this project:
“This is Cool was a great project as we used a Vue.js and Prismic stack. Using Prismic as a CMS was a great developer experience.”
