Why you should focus on a good UX
We talk a lot about User Experience (UX) because the value good UX delivers to your business, is unrivalled. We’ve discussed what UX is and how UX differs from UI but today we’re going to talk about why your business should focus on good UX.
What is good UX?
Well, unfortunately, there is no one size fits all checklist on what makes good UX.
Essentially it’s about designing and building an interface that looks good and works well.
You want to make it easy for the user to complete the desired action.
For example, if you want them to book an appointment, then the flow of your site and calls to actions should make this seamless for them.
You don’t want them to be clicking around and getting lost, trying to find the right place. Peter Morville created a UX honeycomb to help explain the core principles that make good UX.
Useful
We need to ask, is what we’re creating actually useful. Is it helping someone achieve their goal?
Usable
How useable something is, is critical to the experience and a very important part of good UX.
Desirable
We want it to be interesting to the intended audience. Being just useful isn’t enough, people need to want it too.
Findable
Getting lost sucks! Whether your driving somewhere, walking or using a digital product. People might not notice how easy it is to find what they want, but they will certainly notice if they can’t.
Accessible
Creating something that is not accessible to people of all abilities, is creating a restricted audience for your product.
Credible
You want to make sure your users feel safe and that you look legitimate and secure. Otherwise, people won’t stick around.
Valuable
You can make something that you’re really proud of that has good UX, but if you not delivering value to your customer, they won’t be interested. Make sure you’re creating something meaningful and attractive to your audience.
Why should you focus on good UX?
UX is important because it’s all about fulfilling your user’s needs while giving them a positive/meaningful experience. But it’s not just about your customers, it’s important for your business too.
Focusing on good UX will increase your revenue.
Companies with highly effective UX have increased their revenue by 37% and who doesn’t want to make more money?
Having bad UX (for example, poor navigation) on your site means that you will lose potential customers. 61% of users move to another site if they can’t find what they are looking for right away
Investing in good UX is extremely important if you want your website, app, or digital product to be successful.
How do I know if I have good UX?
Again, there is no one-size-fits-all checklist to know if you have really nailed it.
But here are some questions you should ask yourself when trying to assess your UX:
- Is it simple and intuitive for the user? Or will they struggle to complete the desired actions?
- Have you truly put the user first? Or did you do what was easier for you?
- Have you tested with real users? Because your assumptions about what they like might be wrong.
If this all sounds a bit complicated, don’t worry. We’ve got you! We know UX and can help make sure your project’s a success.
