I’ve been a marketing apprentice at Hiyield for a month now. It’s gone quickly! I have learnt a lot in this past month, so if you’re about to start a marketing apprenticeship, here are my 5 (plus an extra one) tips for being a brand-new marketing apprentice.

5 Tips as a Marketing Apprentice, From a Marketing Apprentice

1. Don’t be Afraid to Ask Questions

Remember that as a marketing apprentice you’re learning, so if you’re stuck, don’t know how to do or find something, then just ask someone! The people within your team, or company, even though they may be busy, will be approachable, want to help you and give you any advice they can.

2. Share All of Your Marketing Ideas

Don’t hold back from sharing your ideas as marketing is constantly evolving. By sharing your ideas you are creating an opportunity to learn from your team.

Having fresh eyes on a project means that you may see things that haven’t been seen yet!

Also, share your work with your college lecturers, they will want to see your work.

I am based in Cornwall and I am doing my marketing apprenticeship at Truro College.

3. Talk to People

You’ll meet lots of people within your first few weeks as a marketing apprentice. Make an effort to talk to them. Get to know the people you will be working with, and find out what they do at your company and what they do outside of work.

This will be helpful in the future when you need to ask a question or talk to your colleagues as you will have already spoken to them, making this interaction easier. Here at Hiyield, we have a meet the team page so when starting here I already knew some of the people I would be working with.

4. Take Time to Learn

Take some time to learn about tools or apps you will use as a marketing apprentice. Start to have an understanding of what they do and find your way around them.

Remember you are here to learn so don’t be afraid to take a bit of time to understand how to do a task.

5. Subscribe to Marketing Newsletters

This is something you can do before you start your marketing apprenticeship. There are lots of different marketing newsletters out there that you can subscribe to. This will help you to start to understand some of the topics within marketing and you will have an understanding when talking to your team.

6. Make Sure to Have Fun as a Marketing Apprentice

One extra tip, have fun!

This is the most important one, you’ve worked hard to get to where you are. 🎉

Now, it’s time to enjoy. Ultimately if you are having fun you will get the most that you can out of your marketing apprenticeship!

Those are my 5 (6) tips for being a brand new marketing apprentice!

I’m excited about what I will learn in my next month at Hiyield…
